The PGA Tour announced Tuesday that The Sentry will not be played at Kapalua’s Plantation Course in 2026 because of an ongoing drought in Maui, which is said to have affected over 90 percent of the region and more than 140,000 residents.
Water mandates have been implemented to prioritize the local residents and businesses.
The decision to not play the event at Kapalua was made in coordination with key stakeholders, including Sentry Insurance, the State of Hawaii, Maui County and Kapalua Resort.
“Following discussions with the Governor’s office, as well as leadership from Sentry Insurance, Kapalua Resort and Maui County, the PGA Tour has determined the 2026 playing of The Sentry will not be contested at The Plantation Course at Kapalua due to ongoing drought conditions, water conservation requirements, agronomic conditions and logistical challenges,” the tour said in a statement. “Additional event information will be shared when appropriate.”
The event is still scheduled for the first full week of the year. The four competition days are Jan. 8-11.
Hideki Matsuyama is the defending champion, winning in January at 35 under par.
