Editor/writer Nick Seitz, an integral part of building a gifted staff at Golf Digest, has died, the magazine has reported. Seitz was 83.
Seitz joined Golf Digest in 1967 and was the magazine’s chief editor from 1973-82. He later worked as editorial director of Golf Digest and Golf World before retiring in 1999. Golf Digest Editor Jerry Tarde wrote that Seitz shared a deep interest in art with Ben Hogan, and that Seitz collaborated with Tom Watson on Watson’s instructional pieces in the magazine.
Seitz was the Memorial’s Golf Journalism honoree in 2000 and won the PGA of America’s Lifetime Achievement Award in Journalism in 2002. He is survived by his wife, Velma, and two sons, Brad and Greg.
The Seitz family asked that in Nick’s memory, donations be made to the Bruce Edwards Foundation for ALS Research (bruceedwardsfoundation.org).
